Fall is here guys! The weather here in San Diego has been gradually getting cooler and this rainy front has cooled it down way faster than expected. That's why I was so glad when Isla's fall wardrobe came in! Nothing says fall to me like variations of beige and burnt orange! She also got alot of different grays (to match mama of course) and we're still waiting on some amazing custom order moccasins. I know that not everyone can get away with moccasins in the winter, but San Diego winters definitely allow for them. They are the perfect little slip-on shoe to go make a quick grocery store run or park play date.
When I plan Isla's wardrobe, I always keep in mind a couple things. I rarely ever buy sets, because often times the color schemes are unique to eachother and you can't pair the seperate parts with other peices of her wardrobe. This isn't true, however, for say, a layette set that contains a chambray top and black pants. You can pair those two peices with just about anything! I always go for sets that have at least one neutral, I'm a huge fan of buying neutrals because you can pair them in so many different combinations. This time, I opted to make the leggings the neutrals and buy interesting patterns or graphics for the tops. I bought those same leggings in hungarian paprika, sea salt, large green plaid (which will be amazing for christmas pictures), and beige. Guys, I got these pants on sale for $5 each! When I go to secondhand children's stores, I pay $4.50 each for a pair of leggings/pants. You really can't beat that price for brand new, quality baby gear.
I really liked the idea of pairing these with oversized waffle-knit tee's and pairing with boots (or moccs). So I got a couple of these adorable tops (above pictured is 'arrows') in arrows, knight time, and white. Looking back, I should have scooped up some of Old Navy's adorable plaid flannels, but I had already bought her some from walmart ($5 ea!) and theirs were about $20 each. Yikes! I prefer to stick to basics with the every day wear and accessorize with adorable shoes or coats for special occasions. My splurge pieces were definitely her little faux-fur vest, and coat (thank you auntie Chrissy!). I wish I could say her boots were a splurge but they were actually on sale for $11.50! Such a steal. I sign up for Old Navy's e-mail list and it's how I stay on top of the sales. It's a lot of junk mail, but just start paying attention when it comes close to the time that you'll need a new wardrobe for your little one.
Planning their wardrobe ahead can save you both time and money. No more running up and down the stairs between her room and the laundry room to find that one shirt that goes with those pants. Each pair of pants should have at least 2 different possible combinations. For example, I planned that I would pair those hungarian paprika leggings with the waffle top in arrows, the rounded hem striped shirt, and with one of Isla's pre-existing chambray and flannel tops. If it's cute, on sale, and you can switch up the combinations, buy it! The same logic goes for your basic tops and patterned bottoms, make sure each piece can be paired with different pieces.
